Mattress Care

By Chesterfield Warehouse

Did you know that simple mattress flipping can extend its use and proper cleaning habits can reduce allergens? These tips are classified as mattress care. Let’s take a look at why you should rotate your mattress and how keeping it sanitary can benefit your health:

Flipping your mattress:
The probability of a mattress wearing unevenly is quite high. Over time, sleeping in the same spot causes wear and tear. Even bedding experts recommend rotating your mattress every 3-6 months. First, begin by rotating your mattress 180 degrees so that the head is now the foot of the bed. That way you’ll sleep in a new spot. Also, if you turn the mattress over and do the same, you’ll extend the longevity of the mattress that much more.

Airing out your mattress:

If you regularly air out your mattress, the amount of allergens and germs will be significantly reduced. Begin by removing the bed linens to let the mattress breathe. At the same time, this would be the ideal time to wash your sheets and other bedding. For optimal cleanliness, it is recommended to wash your sheets weekly and other bedding items such as the blankets and mattress cover quarterly. Meanwhile washing the bedding, leave your mattress uncovered for a minimum of one hour before you put clean linens.

If you follow these simple care instructions, not only will you save money in the long run, by avoiding the purchase of a new mattress, but you’ll improve your respiratory health and sleeping habits.
